Mukund Purohit, born in Pune, Maharashtra, India, took his Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, with Marketing and Business Administration as major subjects at the Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda. He completed Diploma in Human Resource Management from the Management institute of Baroda, India. Purohit moved to Canada in the year 2000.

Purohit served the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce in the year 2002-2003 as an Executive Trade Committee member. Purohit was also on the Board of directors of Panorama India, from 2007 to 2009, and re-appointed by the Consulate General of India – Toronto for 2010 – 2011. Currently Purohit is actively involved in promoting international relations between Gujarat and Canada.
Major Achievements:

  • Part of delegation of Canada India Foundation represented by the prominent businessmen from Toronto and arranged meetings with the Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat and the Government officials to discuss the various possibilities of trade relationship between Gujarat and Canada.
  • Organized live video conference, where the Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat addressed the prominent businessmen of Canada, inviting them to Gujarat to be partners in the success story of Gujarat.
  • Canadian business delegation went to Gujarat in Jan 2009, for the first time due to the efforts of Purohit which was led by Senator Con Di Nino and Patrick Brown M.P. to attend the “Vibrant Gujarat” Investor’s summit 2009, which was also accompanied by 32 prominent businessmen from Ontario.
  • Facilitated Saskatchewan delegation led by Hon. Mr. Lyle Stewart, Minister Innovation and Enterprise to explore the possibility of bilateral exchange between both the Governments. Arranged successful series of meetings with the Government officials and the Hon. Chief Minister of Gujarat to discuss various business opportunities of mutual interest focusing in the area of Oil and Natural Gas and Mining.
  • Gujarat Day was celebrated first time in the history of Canada by Purohit and his team of enthusiastic directors to showcase Gujarat and the progress of Gujarat to the Canadian Diaspora. Senator Con Di Nino, Hon. Mr. Peter Fonseca- Minister of Labour, Ontario, Hon. Mr. Harinder Takhar, Minister of Small Business and Enterprise, Ontario, designated people from the Canadian Government, representation from the Government of Saskatchewan by Hon. Ken Cheveldayoff Minster of Enterprise and Mr. Gerry Offet, Hon. Ms. Preeti Saran Consulate General of India, Toronto and other dignitaries from the Indo-Canadian fraternity were present. The Chief Guest for this event was astronaut Ms. Sunita Williams who was awarded with the Global Gujarati award at this event.

 

  • A 12 member delegation from the Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry was invited to explore business Opportunities in Canada, where in the delegates had a one on one interaction with various Canadian business houses.
  • Promotes the Canadian Universities in Gujarat, India to bring in potential Indian talent for higher education to Canada.
  • Provides inputs for companies looking for outsourcing business in the area of Accounting, BPO and export of pulses to India.
  • Purohit also worked on opening doors between Canada and India in the area of Health care focusing on Diabetes. Under the leadership of Purohit GBA jointly with the Consulate General of India, Toronto organized an event of its kind on 23rd Oct 2009 at Red Rose Banquet Hall in Mississauga.  250 Indian Doctors took part in the event who came all the way from India. This event was organized to show what Indian Health care has to offer the world and help the society with the vast knowledge and medicine history going back in centuries.
  • Award winner of prestigious “Gauravanto Gujarati Award – 2010” as a prominent NRI.
  • Taking Parliamentary delegation to Gujarat from 24th April 2010 to 3rd May 2010 which includes Mr. Patrick Brown, Ms. Yasmin Ratansi and Mr. Bob Delany (MPP) along with prominent business group.
  • Successfully organized Swarnim Gujarat (50years) celebration in Toronto where Appx. 10000 people attended the 2 days event.
  • Hosted an incoming government delegation from Gujarat in Canada.
  • Part of the Canadian Parliamentary delegation to India during the month of September 2010 for bilateral relationship for India and Canada, focusing Gujarat and upcoming Vibrant Gujarat Summit 2011 where Canada is a partner country. Purohit was instrumental for the first MOU between the province of Saskatchewan and Gujarat.
  • Under the leadership of Mr. Patrick Brown-MP Chair – Canadian Friends of Gujarat (CFG) and Purohit as Co-Chair lead the delegation of 72 prominent Business men to Gujarat, India to participate in Vibrant Gujarat 2011 where Canada was the partner country of the event.
  • Recently Government of Canada recognized Purohit’s services for contributions made to Canada by awarding him with prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal 2012.
  • In the month of November, 2012, Purohit travelled with the Canadian Prime Minister, Hon.  Stephen Harper as key delegates to Delhi, Chandigarh, Bangalore and attended ‘World Economy Forum conference’
  • Purohit was awarded with “Canada-India Friendship Medal 2012” from House of Commons and Canada-India Parliamentary Friendship Group.
  • Purohit served as consultant for 1st Potash deal between India and Canada.
  • Purohit has attended various key meetings with Minister Of External Affairs, Hon. Mr. S.M. Krishna, Minister of Education, Kapil Sibal and was invited in prestigious round table dinner with Hon. Prime Minister of India Mr. Manmohan Singh.

Purohit is currently working on developing bilateral relationship to the next level between Canada and India. Purohit is also an active fund raiser for “Kanya Kelvani Yojana” (literacy campaign for young girls, deprived of basic education in Gujarat, India) and other charities.
