Dr. Lalita Malhotra, C.M., S.O.M.

Obstetrician & Family Physician, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan

Dr. Lalita Malhotra (Member of the Order of Canada) is an obstetrician and family physician who treats her patients with both passion and compassion. Since settling in Prince Albert 30 years ago, she has delivered thousands of babies, helped to find a wellness clinic for women and advocated for skills-upgrading opportunities. Her involvement in the community is not restricted to her medical practice. She counsels teenagers at the Ranch Ehrlo Society treatment centre, volunteers with the YWCA’s Family Futures Program and has raised funds for disaster relief in Southeast Asia. Affectionately referred to as the “Angel of the North”, she is known as a great humanitarian.

 

Dr. Malhotra was born in Delhi, India in 1941. She received her education in India and the United Kingdom before arriving in Canada in 1975. Dr. Malhotra is an obstetrician/gynecologist who set up her practice in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She has become known as the “Angel of the North” for her efforts to advocate for women’s health issues, especially among the First Nations Saskatchewan. She has delivered over 10,000 babies since her arrival in Saskatchewan.

 

Dr. Malhotra was awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 2001 and the Order of Canada in 2006, as well as being recognized as Citizen of the Year in Prince Albert in 2008. She is Member of Advisory Council to Governor General of Canada for Order of Canada awards and honours for a term of 3 years. She is Major donor of NICU up to the North.
