Dinesh Jain

Dinesh Jain immigrated to Canada in 1973, holding a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from India.  He completed his Masters in Engineering from University of Toronto and MBA from York University.

 

He joined the consulting firm R.J. Black and Associates in 1975 as a Junior Engineer and quickly rose to the position of Chief Engineer in 1980 and Managing Partner in 1984.  In 1989, Dinesh Jain bought the firm from the two retiring partners.  In 1994, the name of the firm was changed to Jain and Associates, and he expanded the firm internationally with offices in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai.   The firm’s global expansion then continued with an office in New Delhi in 1996, in Dubai in 1998, in Hong Kong in 2003 and Amman in 2006.  In 2008, Jain Consultants had 10 offices worldwide with approximately 300 people worldwide.  Jain Consultants currently have offices in Toronto, Dubai, New Delhi and Trinidad and Tobago with approximately 150 people.

 

Dinesh Jain has a passion for Sustainable Design.  He designed the first geo-thermal system for heating and cooling in Canada in 1979 and has also designed many other innovative HVAC systems including ice thermal storage, rock thermal storage, solar air-conditioning and natural ventilation using solar chimneys, etc.  He has also designed Net Zero Energy and Zero Carbon buildings.  He has won many local and international awards and competitions for his designs.

 

Apart from running his international engineering practice, Dinesh has been actively involved in the Jain Community in Toronto since 1982.   He has held the role of President of the Jain Society of Toronto for four terms and has served on the Board for the past 10 years.  He has been heavily involved in construction of the new Jain Temple and Cultural Center in Scarborough and before that was Convenor of the North American Jain Convention.
