9th CIF Charity Golf Tournament 2024

The 9th Annual CIF Charity Golf tournament held at the Lionhead Golf Club and Convention Centre on August 7, 2024, was a testament to the community’s commitment to the brave men and women of the armed forces of Canada and India. This year, the sold-out event set yet another record in contributions, making it possible for the CIF Charity Foundation to donate generously to the designated organizations. The funds raised on the day are exclusively earmarked to support the families of fallen soldiers and frontline workers.

Speaking at the event, Anil Shah, the Chief Inspiration Officer and main driver behind the event for the past nine years, profusely thanked the participants and sponsors for opening their hearts and purses to aid the cause. “You will be happy to know, this year, we have set a new record in fundraising by becoming the most successful tournament since we began. I am really excited for the future. With your help, we will be able to reach out to even more areas where we can make a difference.”

This year’s sponsors included: Fruitsy, Dhampur Green, Scotia Wealth Management, ICICI, Cellular Point, Turkish Airlines, Warraich Catering, Tamarind, InsureU, Shastri & Kagan LLP, Milton Ford

Ritesh Malik, Chair, Canada India Foundation, noted: “It is great honour for us to meet the old as well as welcome the new friends and supporters today. You know this cause is very dear to the hearts of all CIF members. And your active participation means a lot to us. Together, we can continue to grow this initiative.”

A $20,000 cheque was presented to the Canadian Armed Forces association on the occasion. While expressing their appreciation on behalf of the Canadian armed forces, Honorary Colonel, Hari Panday, said: “Thank you for everything you are doing for our homeland. I am glad to say that these funds not only go to support families that need it, but also help fill gaps in critical areas where we do not receive sufficient public funding.”

Indian armed forces too were awarded a similar amount of $20,000 towards aiding families of the fallen soldiers. Surjit Bhatti, IAF (Retd.) and now a resident of Canada, received the cheque on behalf of the Indian armed forces. The gathering showed their love and admiration for the forces with a standing ovation.

Sidharth Nath, Consul General of India in Toronto, lauded the efforts of Canada India Foundation in helping the community and bridging the people of India and Canada. He said: “CIF has always been at the forefront of giving back to society. You represent the best of India in Canada and the best of Canada in India. You also represent the resilience and strength in the people-to-people relationship between India and Canada. On the Indian side, I can assure you that we are absolutely committed to this momentum continuing. “He also encouraged the members to take a close look at all the opportunities that India has to offer that can benefit both Canada and India.

Several great prizes were given away to the winners of the tournament. For the first time in the tournament’s history, a helicopter ball drop was introduced to the great delight of the players. 500 balls sold at $100 each were dropped onto the green from a helicopter that hovered above.

The new proceeds are expected to boost the dedicated CIF fund to aid the families of fallen soldiers and frontline workers. The fund currently stands at $180,000.

CIF Charity Golf Tournament has garnered such widespread support from a cross section of Canadian society and has become one of the most anticipated community events.
