August 27, 2010, Toronto, ON:

Following its highly successful Canada India Energy Forum 2009, Canada India Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to foster support for stronger bi-lateral relations between Canada and India, is pleased to announce Canada India Mining and Metals Forum 2010, a forum for engagement among high-profile government and industry leaders from Canada and India, to exchange sector specific intelligence and develop strategies for cooperation in the Mining/ Metals sector. The Forum is scheduled to take place on September 27-29, 2010 at Marriott Toronto Bloor hotel in Toronto, ON.

“Canada is the world’s largest repository of end-to-end domain knowledge and expertise within the mining and metals sector, covering the full range of resource related activities from prospecting and exploration to mining operations, commodities and market development and world class legal, M&A and financing capabilities” said Dr. V.I. Lakshmanan, Co-Chair of the Forum and Vice-Chairman/CEO, Process Research ORTECH Inc. “ Canadian mining history is rich with examples of explorers starting as prospectors and becoming mining magnates controlling and running global mining companies. The Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX) is the leading market for mining and natural resource stocks with more than 60% of world’s public mining companies listed”.

Mr. Manoj Pundit, Co-Chair of the Forum and Partner at Borden Ladner Gervais LLP, added,”India is one of the world’s strongest economies with a rapidly burgeoning demand for natural resources and commodities, an emerging industrial base and technology driven and knowledge based economy. Canada and India are natural partners within the mining sector”. He added, “The potential for two countries to share their resources and expertise for mutual benefit is immense as evidenced by recent acquisitions of Canadian companies Dofasco and Algoma Steel respectively by ArcelorMittal and Essar Steel, two global giants with origins in India”.

Despite these examples, the potential for trade in minerals and metals between Canada and India still remains to be fully exploited. Canada India Foundation hopes to change this scenario with the Mining and Metals Forum, which is being organized in cooperation with Prospectors and Developers Association Canada (PDAC).

The Forum will take place over full days, preceded by an evening reception and will include focus sessions on Iron and Steel, Non-Ferrous and Light metals, Uranium, Coal, Gold and Diamond, Metals Trading, Sustainable Development, Recycling, Governance and Public Policy, concluding with a panel session to develop Going Forward strategies, which will be summarized in a report to be presented to all stakeholders.

The high-profile list of confirmed keynote, plenary and panel speakers at the Forum include Dr. Abdul Kalam, former President of India, Hon. Sandra Pupatello, Minister of Economic Development and Trade, Government of Ontario, Hon. Michael Gravelle, Minister of Mines, Government of Ontario, Mr. S.
