TORONTO, Sept. 11 /CNW/ – Canada India Foundation, yesterday, commended the Government of Canada’s decision to open a trade office in the State of Gujarat, India. The decision, announced by Prime Minister Harper before a few hundred successful Indo-Canadian business people and professionals in Toronto, was met with loud applause signifying unmitigated support. “This is a strong first step toward Canada establishing strong trade and economic relations with the State of Gujarat after many years of indifference toward India’s fastest growing industrialized state. This move indeed recognizes the potential for substantial trade and investment opportunities for Canadians with Gujarat,” stated Ramesh Chotai, Co-Chair of CIF.
“With its state industrial output growing at 20%, Gujarat is indisputably a business friendly jurisdiction that Canadians will do well to consider when making investments abroad. Gujarat boasts some of India’s greatest business success stories including serving as home to the world’s largest grassroot oil refinery and the worlds largest diamond processing industry, as well as burgeoning IT, software and energy sectors,” stated Manoj Pundit, Spokesperson, CIF. Canada India Foundation looks forward to working with the Canadian Government and the Indo-Canadian community to strengthen ties with the Government of Gujarat and the people of Gujarat.
